History

“May 22”  is considered as the National Hero’s Day in Sri Lanka. The “Sri Lanka-United Nations Friendship Organisation” (SUNFO) was founded on 22 May 1999 under the patronage of  Hon. Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Dr.K.B.Ratnayaka MP  and  with the blessings of United Nations Resident Coordinator for Sri Lanka & Maldives Mr.Peter Withem. Cross section of key Society leader’s from social, academic, political, diplomatic, professional, corporate   sectors joined SUNFO in its first year itself  and  associated to develop SUNFO services.

 SUNFO first Official Coordinating Center was  established in 1999 at the Commercial City of Colombo  in the vicinity of St. Anthony’s Shrine, Kochcikade @ No 13, Jampattah Stret, Colombo.

During last 20 years  (1999-2019) over One Million joined SUNFO as members, volunteers of  activity/mobilization/training participants both  in  Sri Lanka and worldwide.

All  who joined SUNFO helped to develop the organization through their dedicated volunteer services, contributions and commitments. We remember all our Officials/Members who left this world. May them REST IN PEACE.
